In 2013, an incredible group of students in Connecticut came together to raise money and awareness to help feed impoverished, food-insecure public schoolchildren in Martin County, KY (one of the poorest counties in the US). They called themselves RAMPKids.

Today, this group is still going strong. Members are ages 10-18, they attend both public & private schools, and they fundraise throughout the school year for RAMP's Backpack Program.

It's hard to imagine but hunger is the reality for so many kids in rural Appalachia - and for almost all of the kids in Martin County. RAMPKids believe they have a chance to make a difference. And what a difference they continue to make year after year! They have hosted bake sales, local restaurant promotions, lemonade stands and more.

But it's not just about fundraising. When most of their friends are traveling and vacationing during Spring Break, RAMPKids drive to KY to pack backpacks, work in the community food pantry and visit participating Backpack Program schools.

They've committed countless hours to help less fortunate kids, for choosing to work and help others during their free time & school vacations, and for showing their peers and community how important it is to stand up & fight for a worthy cause.
